The trick is to NOT major in biology. Biology major pre-meds are a dime a dozen, and they will be your stiffest competition for A’s. You want A’s. To get them, become a HUMANITIES major, ace the easy fluffy stuff, then focus your power on the prereqs. You’ll graduate with a higher GPA, and not suffer from much of the stress the rest of us feel when we’re up against 400 bio majors with the same goal of topping the curve. I was a molecular biology major, and it singlehandedly ruined my chances of getting into medical school.
So, you should shoot for 3.5+ GPA (and as many A’s as you can manage in your science classes). Extracurricular activities count for a lot! Do a lot of medically-oriented work, but ALSO do something wholly unrelated to science. For example, I used to work in a hospital, but I also helped operate a computer lab. In your third year, you take the MCAT. Score straight 10s or better in all categories (30+ total score out of 45). Spend 4th year applying and interviewing.
Ok ..if you did bad in high school …well i don’t mean bad but not great ..this is what i did ..Sign up for a community college in your area! Take all sciences and math def. …Well what im taking right now is Libral Arts …which is your sciences and you math! Then you want to make sure you keep up your GPA at least 3.4 …do a lot of activities, clubs for the school and maybe some volunteer work! After you receive your associates degree which will take 2years 1/2 maybe just 2 ..you want to transfer out to a university! and you will be taking Pre-medical Studies! then when you are all done with that you are off to medical school! But you have to make sure you have you GPA up there! Good luck!
P.S thats my plan ..i am in a community college then transferring and doing pre-medical studies then off to medical school! GOOD LUCK!!!!
