When there is a negative sign inside of parentheses and there is a fraction with it, and a power outside?

is it negative or positive?

EX: (-6/7) to the 3rd power. is that negative or positive?

Alright, when a negative number is inside the parentheses, you include it. That means any time it is raised to an odd number, it will end up negative, and any time it is raised to an even number, it will always be positive, no matter what. (-6/7)^3 will be a negative number, just plug it into the calculator.

(-6/7) will be -0.85, whether you do -6/7 or 6/7 and distributing the negative sign…whether the answer is negative or not depends on the power. even powers would make it positive. if it is to the third, like in the example, it would be negative.
