Most people would be inclined to believe that is a pretty female is certainly more likely to have an advantage when it comes to in job interviews.

The answer if you ask me though is yes and no. I say this because human beings (male and female) for reasons which would probably have to be tackled as a seperate question, gravitate or are more attracted to good looking people.

Men as we all know are more inclined to have a general weakness towards the women and pretty women at that. There are exceptions to this rule though since there are some very principled and very fair men out there. However let’s for the sake of argument say a pretty female student with a glaringly bad behavior and attitude shows up for an interview. Now I believe that as open and as fair as the panalist may be there is the likely hood that despite her being very qualified (if so be the case) she would be overlooked or passed over if and where possible.

Likewise if she is pretty, intelligent and well mannered and has a very pleasant attitude there is the likely hood that it wouldn’t take too much to win the hearts, minds and attention of the panalists. This I believe would be the same whether the panalists were made up of men of women. The only difference I would foresee is in a case where a pretty intelligent and very pleasant female student is seen as a threat or for some reason smacked up some level of jealousy in the “powers that be.” And here some would say more so in the case of a female boss. Ineffect despite the rules and laws that govern employment and interviews this could work against the female student if the boss could have anything to do with it.

Human beings are very complex creatures and despite certain social standards and principles of accepted behavior like morals, ethics, rules and regulations we tend to make decisions or be affected by other variables like race, gender and indeed apperances and beauty when making decisions such as would be made the case of an “in job interview.”

It’s all very complicated if you ask me.

Sort of depends on who does the hiring. At larger firms it’s always done by an HR department. HR people are trained to ignore biases as much as possible as to avoid costly lawsuits.

Only if you assume that all employers are men.
