In word? Go to Insert pull down menu and select Character. Then just look for it and insert it.

The tilde (~) is a grapheme with several uses. The name of the character comes from Spanish, from the Latin titulus meaning a title or superscription, and is pronounced tildə, in English, or tilde, in Spanish. It was originally written over a letter as a mark of abbreviation , but has since acquired a number of other uses as a diacritic mark or a character in its own right. In the latter capacity (especially in lexicography) it is also sometimes known as the swung dash, twiddle, or the squiggle.

In computer text, the tilde is produced by inputting \~

i.e.: \~{n} for jalape\~{n}o or just \~n will be understood by most.

Some word processor programs will allow you to chose the character set or map. The Spanish set has the character for this. Otherwise, cut and paste from a known source, as I did here. Ñ or ñ

1> Go to program, select Accessories then System Tool. You will see Character Map in your System Tool. Open that up and will find a wide selections of sign & symbols in it.

2> “Select” the ñ or any symbol you wanted and then click “Copy”. Right click the destination where you wanted it to be, and choose “Paste” to transfer the ñ .

In Microsoft Word, you can choose the “Insert” drop-down menu and select “Symbol.” Scroll until you find it. If you copy and paste from there, it should transfer to a text box in Internet Explorer.

Assuming you use Windows, you can use the character map to use latin (and other) characters though not all text editors will support it. Or, you can copy/paste ń
