What university should I go to?
I want to major in music education, and I’m unsure what university to go to. It has to be in Texas, but money and difficulty getting in aren’t really a problem. Any suggestions?
P.S. Just don’t say UT, because I REFUSE to go there.
P.P.S. Please, UT fans, don’t get all upset about that. It’s a long story that I’m not going to tell about why I won’t go there. Plus, I happen to have it on good authority that they only have a mediocre music ed. program.
P.P.P.S. Thanks all!

The best way to pick a college is to have two questions answered: Does this school have a good program that I want, in your case music ed. That is answered in a number of ways, but look at license issues, school accrediting, and reputation among music educators that you know. Most academic programs are equivalent anyway – that is graduates from nearly every school learn the same stuff on outcomes tests.
The key question is this: Is this campus the place I want to be for four (or five, or six) years? Visit, go to classes, hang out in the food court/commons/union. Are these ‘your kind of people’? (whatever that means to you). If you like the people – the faculty and students – then you will like the campus and probably do well.
