What should I be looking for in a college?

I’ve got a couple years to go before I enter college, and I want to start looking early.

But I have no idea what makes a “good” college and a “bad” college.

I’m looking for Culinary Schools, and I have no problem traveling, so should I be looking at housing, tuition, whats a good price, ect?

Thanks for your help!!!

You should be looking for two things: (1) a place that has a good record of producing highly qualified graduates in subjects of interest to you and (2) a place where you would enjoy spending 2-5 years of your life (depending on what program you’re going to choose).

College can be quite expensive, but you need to think of this as an investment for your whole life. A good education makes a huge difference in what you will earn, and in what you will be able to accomplish. Some people will say you can’t put a price tag on that, but even if you could, it would probably be much larger than what even the most expensive schools cost.

Okay, first understand that whatever school you find, if you don’t like it, you can go somewhere else. Next, go to www.collegeboard.com and do their college matchmaker to find good culinary schools. You also need to understand how much you can spend and how much you’re willing to sacrifice to go to school. Visit some places that are local and see what you like and dislike about them. Last, talk to your family and the people that support you. They’ll help you find a place you could really have a good time.

Main things you need to be concerned about are: big school vs. small school, suburban, urban or rural, price, admissions qualifications, etc. Also, once you find your favorite schools, go to their websites and read about them.

Only go to culinary schools if you really, really love food. Often the starting salaries for work in the restaurant biz will not cover student loan payments. (Sorry!)
