What is the GRE?
Favorite Answer
“The Graduate Record Examination General Test, or GRE*, is designed to test fundamental verbal, mathematical and writing skills that a student is expected to have assimilated in the course of his or her college education. The vast majority of graduate programs require that prospective students submit GRE* scores in order to be considered for admission.”
You will be assessed on your comprehension in the following sections:
–Verbal (Antonyms, Analogies, Sentence Completion, & Reading Comprehension)
–Math “Quantitative” section (Quantitative Comparisons, Problem Solving)
–Writing (Analysis of Arguments, Analysis of Issues)
Below you will find a link to GRE test preparation and the introduction to the GRE. The introduction includes a breakdown of the number of questions & amount of time devoted to each of the sections. These should help you greatly in getting a feel for the sort of questions you will find on the test.
Also provided is a link to the GRE page on the ETS website. This company is apparently the supplier of the test & provides the assessment & scoring for educators.
Good Luck!
But remember, you are just a freshman, so you have time to prepare. The best preparation is doing well in your college courses. I believe that most people take the GRE their Junior year, but check with the graduate school you plan on attending to see what they suggest.
