What is GPA variance?

On my transcript, after GPA, it says “variance” with a plus sign and a number.

(Ex. GPA 3.60, Variance +45)

variance means how high or how low your GPA can be. I am not gonna tell you how exactely variance is calculated, you will learn that later in statistics. Lets say your GPA is B. If your variance is high, it means you get As and Cs. which averages out to a B, but there are extreme highs (As) and extreme lows (Cs).

On the other hand if your variance is low, it means you get mostly Bs, which averages out to a B still, but you don’t have the highs and lows.

So with lower variance, you are more consistant. With high variance, they don’t know what they will get out of you. Maybe you will get A in some classes, but C in others.
