How many extra curriculars are neccessary?!?

I was told that colleges dont want students who join lots of clubs and dont show dedication. It seems like they’re just rushing to get extra curriculars. They said that they prefer students who join fewer clubs but show lots of dedication. Is that true?

In some ways yes. What they mean is that they don’t want to see that you were only a member of a club for one year and in that one year you held no leadership position. However, what looks best is being a member of a club for 3 or 4 years, and in one year you were the Vice-President or the President. On the college application you don’t just write the club you were in. There will be room to put 5 clubs that you were a member of (if you were in more, pick the 5 that are most important to you), there will be a little area where you write which years you were a member of that club, and in what years you held a position of authority of that club. What colleges do not want to see is that you were a member of a club that looks great on a college application but you were only a member of that club your junior year. Obviously, that student only joined the club for the sake of writing it down on the college application. As long as you show that you are dedicated to the club, then you will be fine.
