What is an entry-level Doctorate?

I’m eventually going for a DPT(Doctor of Physical Therapy,) which was referred to as an entry-level doctorate. Does that mean I could further my schooling after that? What would be the next steps? If there are no more for that, would it be wise to get another Bachelor’s or Master’s in something else?

The DPT is an entry level degree. However, that does not have to be the end of your education. There are many certifications available that are considered post entry level certifications which could include: lymphedema management, neuroclinical specialist, MDT, manual therapy certifications, etc.

There are also advanced masters programs in which you could enroll that would denote expertise in a specific field of PT.

Finally, the epitomy of continuing education would be a PhD program in physical therapy which is recommended if you hope to enter research or teach at the university level.

The DPT is a doctorate and considered terminal, whoever told you what they did could have been referring to the fact that the doctorate you inted to get is a practitioner’s one and not researched based, like a Phd, you could futher your study, but the doctorate is considered terminal.
