More likely to get in if I am interested in the college’s most popular major?

Am I more or less likely to get into a certain college if I am interested in one of their most popular majors?

For example, if a school’s popular major is psych, would I be more likely to get in if I said I was interested in psych, or if I said I was interested in one of their less participated in majors, such as international business for example.

Does this have an effect at all?

I’ve heard it does, since schools try to balance out their majors.

Yes, the opposite is true. It’s called “backdooring”. A lot of people do this at UC schools like UC-Berkeley. They’ll apply to the Farming school and then backdoor into the liberal arts school or engineering school.

The trick is to be able to do well once you backdoor yourself into another department…

Actually it might be the other way around. A popular major most likely means more competition for you. If you really want to get into this school and doesn’t care about ur major, u should pick the major is not as popular.

You can always transfer once u get in and have a good gpa to start with.
