Is it better to ride a bus to UCLA than driving a car?

I’m going to UCLA this fall and my apt is aprox 15-20mins bus ride to UCLA (including waittime). My roomates are gonna drive but I’m thinking that the gas is really expensive (I’m from SF) and that riding a bus might be more convinient…But I dunno much about LA’s traffic & transportation so yea…Which way is better for a student like me?

Parking is a nightmare at UCLA. It’s very expensive and it’s difficult to find a spot. They hand out parking tickets like crazy. IF you get a permit (IF), it will likely be at a lot that is an inconveniently long walk from your classroom.

Parking in or near your apartment will also be a pain. Westwood and West LA apartments never have enough spaces for all of their tenants. Street parking can be a security issue, as well. Many areas in LA require permits for parking.

The bus is arrives often and takes you close to most of the classrooms. Monthly transit passes are far less expensive than parking, gas, maintenance and insurance for your car.

Hey – you can always hitch a ride with your roommates, too!

I say, BUS IT.

Try the bus and see how it is. If it’s too complicated or you just don’t like it switch over to car (you could try to carpool with your roommates)
