Grading In A 300 Level College Course?

Right now i am in my first 300 level college class. The syllabus says the cutoff for grades will be determined at the end of the semester. Should i assume my 90% in the class right now isn’t actually an A? I have heard that the upper level classes use a different grading scale, where you have to get higher grades, like a 94% or something, to get an A. Is that what i should expect right now?

Do yourself a huge favor and ask the professor what he or she meant. Some college professors do go by a different # for an A. Usually 92 not 94.Your professor could be using the standard grading system where your 90 would be an A. It also could mean he uses a curve of some sort. I don’t know of any college professor who doesn’t have time to answer a question. Schedule a conference. He can clear up his expectations for you, and it will also show that you have great initiative.

Usually grades are rounded up, not down. So a 88 could be the cutoff for an A, not a 94. You need to ask your teacher to clarify which way he/she goes. I also wouldn’t worry too much about it now, just do your best.

Usually indicates some kind of curving. What the curve is like depends on where the midpoint is centered. For some prof’s it’s a C, for other’s it’s a B.
