There are a number of institutions that offer music training: if music is your passion I would suggest trying to get into one that is geared towards that (school of music or performing arts). If you can’t, then I would suggest a music “type” major at a college. HOWEVER– this does NOT play into whether or not you will be a signed, well-known artist when you grow up: it’s all LUCK no matter what anyone says to you: there are thousands of talented folks out there beating the pavement in Austin, NYC, Nashville, and many other cities we don’t even know of, who blow the most well-known performer on the charts today, away: but they are unknowns and most will remain that way. it is pure LUCK that gets one ultimately discovered–even though they all say they have “worked hard” for umpteen years (and they probably have), it wasn’t the “hard work” that got thm discovered–it was luck. Now, for those who say “don’t ever give up on your dreams”, that’s great: but you also must be a realist and know ya have to pay bills and eat: so be smart… get a degree you can earn a living in, and sing when and where you can: because you will also bring joy to others! I’ve been doing it all of my life and have had so many wonderful encouragements, endorsements of ” you should do this for a living..”, and wacko “promoters” — but it doesn’t feed my children and pay the bills, so I actually have a profession that does.

There are many conservatories that offer degrees in vocal performance. Berklee College of Music in Boston is probably the best which aims at modern music, at least in terms of the success of its graduates, and most of the other ones will focus on opera or other classical forms.

Umm…Colleges don’t have singing degrees…at least from what I know. So you would just major or whatever in what ever subject you want to, and still be a singer
