I think most universities already have a sense of community. Look at football season-how many students and alumi come together to support a team (whether good or bad). Football brings students, alum and faculty together in support of a common cause-and I think this is a great example of a sense of community. Universities often band together to support charitable causes or even campus causes-for example my school every year hosts an Arbor Day celebration, where organizations and individual students come together to plant trees, and pick up trash around the school. Another example of campus support is the Virgina Tech situtation-not only did their campus come together in the face of this tragedy, but so did other college campuses around the country. So I think there already is a sense of community in universities. I also think that it could be improved, and that many universities are working to improve it with different departments, such as the new Diversity acceptance department at my school.
