Has anyone heard of a college assistance program for “displaced home makers”?

What are the qualifications for this program? Thank you.

Almost every state and many organizations have assistance programs to train displaced homemakers. A displaced homemaker is a woman who basically made their household their work and through death or divorce find themselves in a situation where they must find work for the first time. Many haven’t ever worked after leaving high school and now find themsselves without the requisite skills or experience to find a job.

Just type “displaced homemaker” into a search engine along with the name of your state. you should find some information

Additional info: I did more checking and found that you will find programs offered by individual colleges if you type “displaced homemaker, college assistance” into a search engine. If you have a particular college or colleges in a particular state, I would add that to narrow the search.

In the state of NJ, we can apply for “grants” & they do give them out w/o much hesitation. You have to have high grades to be entitled to them tho. My oldest went thru 3 yrs. of engineering pt. time college w/grants. He had a 3.9 average, & did very well w/college. One of the teachers in calculus had him teach some of his classes. Said he was good w/his patience & had a special way of teaching so the students remembered things thru using association words. He still has a couple more points to go, them w/be free. Would love to get enuf to be able to teach. He’s been on disibility after two botched back surgeries, can’t work in an office or at a desk all day, but could do teaching tho where he’d have the freedon of moving around. I think he’ll be trying to go to school w/his daugher who is applying for grants for a teaching profession herself. Good luck, Kandice, I’m sure you can find out something. Maybe even call a local college & get the correct info from them!!!

Try notifying your local Park District. I lived in Joliet, Illinois back in the early 90’s and I was put through School after I took a job placement test and it showed that I would be good in that position. I can’t remember who it was that helped place me in the program but, I think your park district can help you find the organization.
