Then, you want to get involved in activities like school government, community service groups–any activities in which you can demonstrate that you are a responsible and motivated person with leadership potential.

You also need to keep your nose clean–be a model citizen and law abiding person.

You also want to think about working with some high profile political figures during your summers, etc. These people will be able to write you recommendations when it is time for you to actually apply to the academy. Find out who your elected representatives in Congress are, and contact their local offices. Explain that you want to get involved as an intern or volunteer for the Senator or Representative.
