My goodness, there are big dorms, little dorms, old dorms, new dorms, north dorms, south dorms, tower dorms. There are single rooms, and there are suites that hold a lot of people. Some are old, and some are new. The doubles in the older dorms on the south campus are a little ratty, but the freshman don’t seem to mind. There is more information here:

I’m going to Penn State in the fall, and I am almost positive that the Ohio State dorms are better. They compare our freshmen dorms to a beehive. We have one of the largest and most condensed college dorms in the world, so we have really really tight quarters. At least our dorms are the nearest ones to the football stadium, I suppose. I’d say the best dorms would be the one where most of the freshmen are at because that way you’ll have more companions throughout your stay there. Getting an apartment depends on whether you don’t want to pay the cost of the dorms. Yes, it’ll be more spacious and more private; however, you won’t be right in on all the action on campus. I’ve always been told that being away from the campus early can cause one to lose out on plenty of social opportunities. Personally, even if I had a chance at an apartment, I would still reside in the dorms because I view it as an integral part of what constitutes the college experience. I’d say go for the dorms if you want to experience everything in college and have those dorm stories that you can share with others when you’re older. That’s why I also want to grow the ridiculous hairstyle that I will look back on and laugh at. You got to have that too.
