College of Medicine Question?

I understood that the School of Medicine is the 2nd 4 years in your life towards becoming a medical doctor, So what kind of Bachelor’s degree do you get in your first 4 years in college?? Do you just get a degree in anything then apply to a school of medicine, or does your bachelor’s have to be in Biology or what not??? Thanks.

Your major can be whatever you want it to be. Do something that interests you. I majored in Food Science and I got into medical school. Sometimes it is better to differentiate yourself by your major than by some extracurricular activity. Have fun learning your major instead of making it a chore. Med schools do like people who major in something different. It’s refreshing to see something other than Biology or Chemistry. Having said that it does tend to help on the MCAT to major in either Bio or Chem. Just make sure you get the prerequisites, get good grades and you will do just fine.

Some schools offer a pre-med degree, but if not, a biology, chemistry, or other science-related field is best.

In reality, though, anyone who demonstrates their capabilities through high test scores and a good GPA has a shot at getting into medical school.

Medical schools have pretty strict quotas. Most people get degrees in Biology or Chemistry.
