college knowledge, please help!?

Hi, I was wondering what type of useful knowledge I would need to know before entering a college/university to come in prepared?

I was told I need knowledge of computerized spreadsheets such as Excel, and typing at a high WPM, but what other skills should I master?

Please name as many as you can with little or great detail.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Power Point, self motivation, self drive and determination. They don’t babysit you.

Flash Cards, great study skills. Find study partners.

If your university or college is worth a damn, you will need to do presentations from time to time. Knowing Powerpoint and possibly even iMovie or Moviemaker will make your life much better.

Also, you need to know how to speak in front of people. A lot of programs, by the time you are a Senior, have you do a presentation in front of a large group, possibly a class sized or auditorium full of people….

Lastly, you better learn empathy, friendship and how to enjoy your down time because nothing makes college harder than having no friends. You are there for the education but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself as well… find a balance and everything will be great.

Most of the things you mention can be learned in college, although it can certainly help if you go in already knowing them. That’ll make your life much easier when you start classes.

I’d recommend knowing at least the basics of Word (or a wordprocessing program of your choice) and Excel, and the basics of Powerpoint. You may also want to know how to touch-type, as that can make writing papers go much, much faster. It’d also come in handy if you learn how to do laundry, if you don’t know, before you go. Otherwise…

Again, all these you can learn once you get to school, but it certainly helps if you have these skills before you get there!

Nah, those things aren’t important. Basic computer skills will probably be one of the courses you take anyway.

You need time management skills, the ability to prioritize. You have to be able to ask questions and figure out what your professor is wanting from you. You need good writing skills. You also need to know how to balance work and play.
