Can someone tell me a bit about Phi Theta Kappa?
I got an invitation to join this Honor Society. If you are a member, do you enjoy it? What kid of service projects do you do…are service projects required? What are the meetings about and how long are they usually….are you REQUIRED to go to the meetings? I’m a full time student…will I have time for it? Do you know anyone who has joined and has chosen not to participate in the projects (I was thinking about maybe doing this because I just don’t know if I will have time) Was it enjoyable for you rather than a bother? Any other info I should know?

Its the honor society for community college students and they give automatic scholarships when you transfer to a university. Its a great deal. I think its $75 to join and depending on your GPA you could get thousands back. You can be as active as you wish, but if you take on a leadership role, it would look really good on your resume. They do different activities that benefit the community.
The meetings aren’t long, but I never went to a single meeting or participated in any way and still got the money. I just kept my GPA up. If you enjoy that kind of thing and are a joiner who wants to be around other smart people you will want to do things. If you don’t want to–don’t! I think the kind of projects depends on the group of people at any given time.

It all depends on the requirements for your PTK chapter. Ours had various volunteer opportunities (work at local food bank, heart walk, clean up the park day, raise money for a charity, etc.), but nothing was required. We also had meetings once a month I think, and I only went to one. They can’t require you to go (unless you are an officer, in which case you kind of have to). The meetings are typically short, 20 minutes or so, but again this all depends on your school. It just depends on how much they have to talk about at meetings. To be honest, I didn’t do much. The thing about college clubs is that you can be as involved as you want. If you never want to come to meetings, then don’t. Many people just join clubs to have something to add to their resumes, and they never do anything in the club. Mostly the people who get active in the club are the ones who want chords for graduation.

I was in PTK when i was in junior college… being active helps but that is not a necessity to get all the transfer scholarships that they offer… plus, going to meetings helps because they always make travel plans and you get top priority ( that is if you want ti travel and see the US on someone else money) we took trips to Puerto Rico, San Fransisco etc…
Its also good for your resume

I joined PTK and never went to a single meeting . . . I just wanted the line on my resume/cv. So, yes, generally you can join and do as much or as little as you choose with your chapter.
