Is Media/Communication related to American Studies?
If I apply to an American Studies Master’s program, but my main research interest is the media and it’s effects on Americans, do you think that sounds right, or are the two not related?

If you take courses (besides the requirements) that focus on American media, then it can be related. You might also try to do the history of the media and its affects on Americans over the past 60 or so years. Especially with the 1960 debates (a tan, young looking JFK beat out a politically smarter, but media un-suave Nixon).
In the earlier years, it should be easier to study because Americans only had about three television channels to choose from and the AM radio. Nowadays, we have 500 channels, talk radio and the Internet to get our news from, some of which is coming from overseas.
