I think first and foremost I expect basic safety. I don’t want my two children in danger. I think that’s different than 20 years ago, but that’s first.

Secondly I want my child to get a basic education that prepares them for college, and life in general. That’s enough math, english and science in my opinion.

Third I want and expect that my child should be able to go beyond basic and into advanced subjects in High School, or be able to take other courses if they’re ready.

From the teachers I expect knowledge of the subject, respect from the teacher toward the children (my kids are taught respect for the teacher), and enough hard work so that they have every opportunity to learn the subject.

I’d like for the teachers to be able to be creative enough to teach difficult subjects in ways that make it easier to understand, and for them to understand it well enough that they can explain in more than one way so that kids that think in many different ways can all grasp the concept.

As a parent, I expect the teacher to be highly qualified, that she uses every opportunity to be a learning experience for the child, even if it is not within the basic curriculum. The teacher should be honest and he should treat all students equally. As far as schooling in general, I want my child to have a strong background in the basic subjects….be well-rounded and have the opportunity to explore other fields such as music, foreign languge, etc.
