Need advice from a teacher/instructor who has experience designing a course/syllabus?

I teach ESL class (as hobby) and Im trying to come up with a directory of all the different subjects that someone can teach. The list seems to be endless.

Is there some prexisting category list for something like this? Im thinking i could just use the dewey system but maybe thats overkill?

thanks for any ideas

I’m not Pagan, and my name isn’t Dan. I use the name “Pagan Dan” because it’s Chinese for “bacon and eggs”. It amuses me to have a pen name.

I teach ESL in a junior high in Hualien County on the east coast of Taiwan. I have also taught kindergarten, elementary, high school, adults, and English for special purpose. I am frequently required to design and plan my own entire courses from start to finish.

Please email me, and I will be pleased to give you some pointers that may or may not be useful to you.

You’re right about the overkill. It is better to “tailor” your work to your specific students.

The difference between your work and mine is (I guess) that your students speak a variety of languages and are trying to learn English.

About half of my students are Ami (local aboriginal folks), and the other half are ethnic Chinese. They all speak Taiwanese instead of Mandarin.

I’ll see what I can do when I hear from you.
