Without knowing, the course content,

I would answer the following 5 questions:

1. Why are we here?

2. What do we hope to achieve?

3. How will we achieve it?

4. How can I help you?

5. How can you help me?

I would then do the following 5 things:

1. Introduce myself (in human terms)

2. Ask my class to introduce themselves (answering the questions above).

3. Create interest in the course material (i.e. sell it) emphasizing the benefits to be gained.

4. Provide reassurance that I am there to help and guide.

5. Ask the class if there are any areas that they are particularly interested in or worried about.

I made up lists of threes (three things you should know about this class/ about me/ and 3 things you should buy) then I started teaching and using my procedures being specific about the start of class.
