I actually just took this exam this morning! I found it to be pretty difficult because most of the passages are in old-style writing. Lots of “thou” and “whilst”. But, then I’ve been out of High School for 17 years so I’m a bit out of practice. I just slowly read & reread each passage until I grasped it better. I passed with a 69 (you need a 50 to pass the exam). To prepare, I took the practice tests in the CLEP Official Study Guide, both the 2003 and 2004 editions I found in the library. Then, I bought the Analyzing Lit CLEP Guide at a discount book store for $9 and studied the literary terms in that for a day. I think you would do fine with just taking any practice tests that are free (such as at library) and studying literary terms on your own. No need to purchase extra material.
I would recommend CLEP highly because it is a cheap and fast way to complete college credits. I have taken two other CLEP exams and with a little preparation, they can be passed!
