in order to get a degree in education, you will need to take college algebra. it is similar to high school algebra, only a little faster in pace. if you have to, get a tutor.

as far as elementary praxis tests go, you will not need to know too much. they say it measures an 8th grade math level.

if you have a math issue, don’t plan on teachign middle school math. the test makes sure you can do everythign through high school. i bought a study guide for the test and couldn’t believe some of the stuff in there.

good luck.

It depends on the level you are planning to teach. I teach middle school age children ( fifth grade). In fifth grade we cover basic algebra and a lot of geometry. We work with positive and negative integers, square numbers and square roots, and mostly decimals as far as computation skills go. So, if you are planning to teach upper grades I would say you need at least one algebra course and one geometry class in order to be able to teach math effectively.
