Does anyone have any suggestions about possible careers other than teaching if you have an education degree?

I’m tired of teaching and am looking for another career, if someone knows of a career that pays as much as teaching, please let me know. My degree is Heatlth, Physical Education, and Recreation.

lifestyle coach, personal trainer? Maybe look at dietician work?

I would maybe look at starting up your own business, specialising in either party fun for kids (active based) as you have the skills to control and run them – plus parents would be willing to pay for someone to take control and keep them entertained and active 🙂

or

running / organising some sort of ‘active camp’ for kids…. targeted at overweight, underactive kids, run either camp style during school holidays or as weekly sessions… incorporate healthy eating, varied, fun excercises and sports…. this could be a real winner I think!

It might be time for a step up to a college level.

With your degree and experience, you would be a top candidate for program manager for any area of student programs such as “Upward Bound” or programs that match kids (or adults) to career choices or to further educational options.

There are also several career tests you can take online (there’s one below) that can help you decide where your other interests may lead you.

Also like what was already mentioned, MOST state jobs only require ‘a degree’ and can let you enter any other area of interest you may want to try.

A four year degree with no experience will put you at a level G-6 if I remember correctly. A park ranger may be just what you’relooking for or park guide or even program guide for an outdoor summer program with kids.

You’ll also be excellent for any summer camping programs involving kids and it may use your degrees more.

I have a friend in this field who became a parks & rec leader. Her college courses included stints at national parks leading tours, doing research, maintaining property. You could also easily become a sport instructor (skiing, hiking, rafting, etc).

Another option is to do physical recreation at nursing homes or YMCA. You may need a few additional courses to be certified in physical therapy for rehabilitation or athletic sports training.

Get your MLS and be a school media specialist. You get to keep your seniority, don’t have to be face to face with kids all day (just part of it), and it is masters level teacher’s pay.

Or look into college level coaching positions – maybe minor league sports?
