Wording maybe rough but I don’t see why not. If the kid in front is known to cause disruption I’d put him/her in back to avoid it being seen by the rest of the class as much as possible. I don’t think I would have worded it that way but do I believe teachers are allowed to change seating.

Nope, unless the student in front is causing too much distraction to the class, the teacher can somehow send the student to the back row as form of punishment for the negative behavior. However, the use of foul language is inappropriate and it is quite obvious that the teacher is quite judgmental of the learning skills of her students. Students can sit anywhere they like, and if the student is slow and prefers to sit in front of the class, the teacher should appreciate it more and reward the behavior because that signifies that the student is willing to learn…

Teachers can “seat” their classes in any format or with any specifics they believe will promote learning. When I used to teach large classes, I would sit the desks in a C (me in the middle) and split the disruptive kids up throughout the C. This worked for me, but other teachers may have other preferences. It’s like Maslow’s hierarchy. A teacher must be comfortable to teach well. I wouldn’t look too deeply into what was done, but if strange things continue, keep an eye out. This teacher may not be acting correctly.

Teacher should not have done this! Everyone should be at school to learn, and has that right. Unless student was being disruptive, they should not have been told to move. Furthermore, calling any student a name, like fool, shows a very bad lack of judgment/ethics on teachers part!

Yes, teachers are allowed to reasonably discipline students in their class. Since it sounds like the student in question was causing a disruption the teacher could ask the student to change seats with another student.

I would have kicked them into the hall.

It’s not a question of “can” she do it. She did. The question is- should she have done that? The answer would be a big NO!

I would report that. The teacher does not have the right to call anyone a fool or to shun students or belittle them for another.

There is no rule against doing this, but your teacher seems to be a bit insensitive and rude. As an adult they should know better than to make such comments in front of an entire class. I know that would have made me feel really bad if it happened to me.
