Any teachers out there? help finding a career??

hi umm i’m in high school right now so its time for me to pick my majors and such. but all through my life i’ve always had to decide between two careers: teaching and interior design. i wanted to be a teacher b/c i wanted to make a difffernce in someones life and who knows i could end up being the next bill gate’s favorite teacher. but the downsides are that they don’t get paidd alot and that i dont know what subject i want to teach (i want to teach either 8th or 9th grade) math: im good at but i feel that it wouldnt be fun to teach. science: i think that its funner to teach b/c you can do many projects but i find the subject boring. english: i would like it if it were only vocabulary/spelling and reading novels. history: i think is pretty pointless but i also find that theres many projects you can do with it. and interior design is more of a hobbie than a passion or something i am good at it and i think it would be funner (grading papers, lesson plans. even though i like doing that

If you decide to teach and major in Math or Science, you won’t have any trouble getting a job. English is also a demand subject in our state, so it’s not a bad choice, either. As someone who taught at least one middle school class a year for 19 out of my 20 years in the public schools, I loved teaching middle school.

Yes, teaching has its challenges, but, as cliche’ as it might sound, there are lots of rewards in teaching. I’m sure there are challenges with Interior Design, too.

Perhaps your first year of college, you can take an intro course in both of those subject areas and see which one appeals to you more.

Good luck!

Based upon your language skills I think that you will have a lot of work to do before you are able to teach anyone else. I think you’re better served focusing on the education you are currently receiving than what is down the road. You also don’t have to pick a major right away in college – and don’t have to go to college right away either. There are a lot of options out there in life. Finally, you can get paid a lot in teaching depending upon where you teach and what you teach.

Also, consider that if you go out and become an interior designer you can later go back and perhaps teach at a 2-yr or 4-yr college.
