How do you evaluate a city once you’re there visiting it?
What should I be doing while I’m in each city in order to figure out if I’d like spending time there for several weeks or months studying? Should I contact the schools I’m thinking of going to? And what would they tell/show me but positive things? I feel I should talk to the locals, but I’m not one to just start talking to strangers. I could pretend to be on vacation and go sightseeing, but that is not the purpose of the trip. I’d get all involved in sightseeing instead of trying to evaluate how I feel about the city.
Should I do a volunteer trip, should I join a tour group, should I find an event I’m interested in like a convention or a recreational class, and use it as a way to get a perspective on the city (cities)? Suggestions please.
