Is 1830 a good score on the SAT?

It also depends on your subscores. If you got an 800 in writing, a 650 on reading, and a 380 on the math…well, it doesn’t speak well for you math abilities. Many colleges do not factor in the writing score yet because it os new and not a perfect predictor or writing ability. It also does not have intergrader-reliability. If you did do well on the writing, that’s great, but what seems to count more are your math and reading subscores. Most colleges do not look at your entire score, but rather your individual subscores. The average subscore is 500, making the average total score a 1500. You can gage how well you did based on that and the bell curve.
but to your question…1830 is a solid score. you’re not gonna get into harvard or most top 25 schools but there are PLENTY of good schools you can get into w/ those scores.
im supposing you got 600’s on all three portions.
if not, and you got 700s on all but the writing, thats pretty good too.
its above average and will HELP get you into a real good school.
however, that also depends on a number of other things (activities, grades etc)
its not for yale or harvard but its a good score.
but it is decent for many state schools.
examples.
indiana university
michigan state university
university of iowa. etc..
you can always retake it to improve the score
but it seems like you want to get into a great school, if that’s so you should consider taking the SAT subject test as well – most good schools require it and it looks good to others.
