A score of 147 is several standard deviations above the mean (which is about the same as the median in this case, and the data a fairly “normally” distributed). In fact, it puts you at roughly the 99.9th percentile (most tables you look up on the net show approximately 135 to be the 99th percentile).

Of course, your “score” depends on a lot of things, including which version of the many of the test you use. So this result should not be interpreted to mean that you are necessarily “smarter than 999 people in a thousand,” just that on this test, your score exceeded that of the majority of similar test takers. On another test, you might get a vastly different score. At this end of the scoring scale, you got most, but not all of the questions correct…a change of one correct answer either way would probably move your score by many points.

I received a score of 145 as a teenager. Later, as an adult, I took a series of online IQ tests over several days and received results ranging from a high of 176 to a low of 105, but the twenty or so scores actually averaged out to about 145, so I’ll stick with that estimate for now. I went back to check the test for the high score and discovered that changing a single answer lowered my score back to about 150 and getting one more correct raised it to about 200. There is a lot of sensitivity at the extreme ends of these tests.

But don’t asume that this is a one way ticket to successville.

You’ll still need determination and drive to make your life what you want it to be.

Some people with high IQ’s are foolish and careless.
