How do I score high on the SAT???!?

I’m the type of person who does really well in school (4.17 GPA–weighted) but when it comes to standardized tests … I don’t do so well.

I’m a juinor currently taking SAT prep classes. I just started this year and I’ve been taking model tests. I’ve scored REALLY LOW, below average.. and I’m scared. I really want to improve but the math section is impossible for me, I’m in pre-calc now and I do not remember basic algebra math/word problems. Its all so CONFUSING. The grammar portion gives me a headache and english is a bit easier for me.

How do I improve? I’m DESPERATE! I really want to get into UC’s in california and I have the grades for it but i’m totally screwed when it comes to the SAT’s!!

Let me tell you, I just got out of high school this summer. Seeing that you are a junior, you aint got much time to keep retaking this test. With your GPA being so high, i would recommend a score of 1850+ for UCs. Buy a princeton review SAT book and dedicate time to reading it each day. The SATs do count but remember thats not all it is, colleges also look at your grades and activities on and off school. Im sure you will do just fine

just keep on retaking and doing the tests in those sat work books

in the end you kinda get the hang of it

as to how to achieve the right answer after like 10 or so

then you will probably have at least a 2000 out of 2400

unless of course you are an extremely poor writer

Take the actual test… over… and over… and over… it’s really the only way to improve. Take it as many times as you can before you graduate. And the UC’s really aren’t that difficult unless you’re shooting for the big dogs (i.e. Berk and UCLA) UCSD, UCSB, and UCI aren’t as competitive as you may think.

Many first generation ESL students have syntax issues….

Talk with other people about books and your comprehension will improve.
