I will assume that you mean information required by the No Child Left Behind act which requires scores to be disaggregated according to several categories including ethnicity, special education, socio-economic status, and gender.
Breaking scores down into these categories helps school teachers and officials to consider how well an individual student may be being served at the school. Before these requirements, a school with high average scores could hide the fact that a number of students were not being taught well.
The information can be misused, however, if only blame is placed on the teachers, and no one searches for ways to make improvements.
