Start off by meeting with a guidance counselor at your school. He or she can review what you’ve done so far in high school and what you need to do to make your dream come true. You have to focus on the here and how. I realize that you are anxious to get to college at the Art Institute, however, you have to take things one thing at a time. Finishing high school should be the first priority for you. It’s only September and you have a lot of time to turn things around so that you can graduate. Perhaps you can take an extra course before or after school. Perhaps you need to complete the last few courses over summer school next year. If your credits are that messed up and you drop out, colleges may question your ability to follow through on their program requirements as well. If you opted to drop out and go for the GED, you still might end up having to take classes in order to pass that exam. If that happens, well, you would have been better off staying in high school. If it means another year as a senior to get all the courses you need to attend the college of your choice, then I say “Just Do It!” You’ll be glad you did.
