What is the difference between ‘tener’ and ‘tener QUE’?

I’ve been in Spanish class 3 weeks and still don’t get it.

‘Tener’ means ‘to have’ in the sense of ownership. Tengo hambre means ‘I have hunger,’ or, I’m hungry. Tengo cinco dolares means ‘I have five dollars.’

‘Tener que’ means to have to, in the sense of ‘must.’ Tengo que salir means ‘I have to leave,’ or ‘I must leave.’ Hence, ‘porque tengo hambre, tengo que comer’ means because I am hungry I must eat.

It’s that easy.
