I don’t have a specific book, but I find the Industrial Revolution to be fascinating from many aspects. That part of American history changed our economy, our family structure, our ways of employment, the whole social structure moved from agrarian to urban. Perhaps your library has something on either a particular inventor, child labor, or factories during that time period.

I also greatly admire Jane Addams and the impact she had on inner city Chicago through her humanitarian-based Hull House. Perhaps you could find a book on Women during that time.

Also, the Dakota Territory had been explored and the Westward Movement was in full force. Perhaps you could read about the movement of the various Indian tribes. I’ve often wondered if American art created around the turn of the century more accurately reflects what was actually happening or is a more idyllic view from white settlers perspectives, or is turn-of-the-century “politically correct?”

I know that doesn’t give you specific books, but perhaps gives you something to ponder for a topic you like.

well i think you would be pretty lucky to find i book that isn’t about slaves or war in american history (womens rights really just fasinates me) but today is your lucky day. “All Our Relations: Native Struggles for Land and Life” It may not be about American history directly but it is about the strugle Native Americans had for survivel. I haven’t read it but i just found it on the internet. Though i may not be the best judge for finding a book that would be considered completly INTERESTING because i will like to read about anything.

Here is the site with the review of the book and what it’s about!

You might try ‘The Journals of Lewis and Clark.’ I found it interesting because you get to read their actual journal entries (and their spelling was horrible). There are also lots of great books on the lives of pioneers. Do a search at amazon.com for some of the topics you are interested in.

Read Nickled and Dimed , it covers a political journalist who was sent to try to find a job and live on minimum wage for a year. Its about the working poor in American, Not the homeless, people who are working but are underpaid and not respected.

yea, simply hanging what i do know on norse mythology could often take two or three pages on right here. you had higher get to a library then. regardless of that it is “older” expertise, it’s nonetheless the equal expertise. the extra standard mythologies are often greek, norse, and egyption. keep in mind nevertheless, that christianity, buddism, hinduism, islam, and judaeism are more commonly mythologies as good. the romans had their possess faith, long ago while, but it surely used to be kinda dull. it used to be a god for each fireplace. now not colourful in any respect. via all in their buying and selling with the greek, they started to decide on up their faith as good. however they renamed the gods with latin names. that is whilst you gotta take into account while to make use of zeus, and while to make use of jupiter then there are a complete lot of different religions that aren’t almost so good recognized. for the greek stories, there’s a e-book via edith hamilton, an superb number of in general the entire greek reviews. for the norse, the predicament is that now not so much used to be written down. the complete faith used to be advised via mouth, so there are such a lot of special models of the equal tale. nevertheless, they had been written down someplace round 1400 i feel, in iceland. the Eddas and the Sagas had been their titles, and that’s in general the one supply of norse faith. H.A.Guerber wrote a first-rate e-book on that. it is superb to seem into up to you’ll be able to earlier than hand, however you’ll be able to be studying it whilst you get there besides. i desire i might have long past to institution for mythology, however nowhere round right here helps some thing greater than a brief magnificence on it.
