how would i set this problem up?
“Seperate 150 into two parts such that 4 times the larger exceeds 5 times the smallest by 60.”

Let x be the larger part and y the smaller part. We have
x + y = 150
4x = 5y + 60
Use the first equation and solve for x
x = 150 – y
Now plug x into the second equation and solve for y
4x = 5y + 60
4(150 – y) = 5y + 60
600 – 4y = 5y + 60
600 – 60 = 5y + 4y
540 = 9y
y = 540 / 9
y = 60
Now that you have y, find x from the first equation
x = 150 – y
x = 150 – 60
x = 90
