Clone story…?
Favorite Answer
Do you have any rights as a clone or do only originals have rights?
Hope that’s something to think about.
I love clone stories.
If you wanted to be all deep and meaningful you could look at the idea that a clone is a second class citizen and that they are marked in some way so that you could be identified as a clone at all times.
You could also explore why you might have been created – spare body parts, spare organs, a source of easily replaced labour. You could also explore the idea that maybe you are raised at an accelerated rate or live life at an accelerated rate becuase of the clone technology.
You could raise the idea that you were created as a clone of a person who has died and why your growth was accelerated to the point where the person died – or why ethics must have come into account with you being a clone of someone who has died who has been allowed to mature naturally rather than being forced into an accelerated growth pattern.
Think about these things carefully before you start writing:
1) Are you thinking about clones now or in the future where cloning technology may be more advanced and accelerated growth is possible
2) Think about what laws will exist in relation to cloning – will the process by government controlled or can you walk to a store and just order a clone
3) What laws exist to protect people – who can be cloned and what permissions have to be sought before someone can be cloned
4) Will clones have to be identified and will they be treated differently to “normal” humans
5) Will life expectancy be the same – cloned animals don;t currently live as long or as healthily as regular animals
6) Will there be a cloning black market – will third world countries make clones that are illegal in other countries
7) Will the clones be used as cheap labour or used for less desirable professions such as prostitution
Get all your ideas straight and then go for it – think about what your government is like now and then look forward and think what they will be like when cloning is a realistic technology.
Good luck with your assignment
Well, you wouldn’t really know you were a clone unless someone told you you were… but say you DID find out when you were a teenager… that you were a clone of someone’s child who had been killed in a tragic accident… would you feel that your parents had loved YOU or the person you’d been cloned from? Would you be still able to love them… knowing that the only reason you’re alive is because you look like someone else who’s not… and not because they wanted YOU.
And how would you feel about the person you’d been cloned from… the one you’d never know… except through what other people have told you about that person… how you’re so much LIKE them… and sometimes so UNLIKE them?
Would you try to be different… but sometimes wonder if that’s exactly what the other person did or might have done… and maybe by trying NOT to be that person, you become them anyway…
And finally… at that moment when you realize that you’ve lived one second longer than the person you were cloned from… do you still feel that you’re merely a copy of someone else… or are you finally your own person?
