Well, why do think that is so – cause it is.

Historians can be anyone who loves history – you have to sift through information of the past that is either written down – so it’s some person’s opinion or view of something that happened – or it’s an object you have to figure out what it was used for, etc.

Imagine people a 1000 years from now digging up the neighborhood you live in and trying to figure out what a bathtub was all about. Probably think it was a coffin. lol

That’s how historians have a little bit of detective to them – take all the pieces and figure out what really happened or what it really is………

As you know, detectives investigate crimes to find out why and how the crime happened. Historians do similar work by investigating the past to see why certain things happened at a particular time. If a particular thing was a catastrophic event (such as world wars), they study similar events to learn how it can be stopped from happening again. Anthropologists are a type of historical detective, also, because they investigate how mankind evolved over time and the inventions that helped us evolve, like the inventions of fire, the wheel, weapons, agriculture, speech, etc.

They need to add up the various pieces of information they find and separate fact from fiction. Bias always needs to be taken into account when analyzing information, and historians do that well.

An historian uses a disjointed collection of clues to tell a coherent story or interpretation of what happened.
