Having music playing in the background may help, it’s been proven to stimulate learning in many people (especially if you learn by hearing, rather than seeing). Don’t play it terribly loud, just loud enough to have something else going on. I often have to have background noise in order to focus, otherwise I last about 5 seconds as well.

Also, have some healthy snacks at an arm’s length – both the movement with your hands/mouth and the steady blood sugar will help you.

For subjects you truly can’t focus in, or you really have trouble with, set yourself small sub-goals – get three question done and close the book. Come back after your next subject and complete three more, etc.

Feel free to get up and move around while you’re reading, this can also occupy part of your brain and stimulate learning centers in your brain. I allow my son to do this, and even though it drives me nuts to watch him πŸ™‚ it helps his concentration A LOT.

If it’s a lit assignment that you can get the audiobook for (the library should have most well-known books on audio), get it and read along with it. For many people, both hearing and seeing something will help them focus.

Hope that helps!

Whether its studying by yourself at home, or its sitting in a classroom, the problem is usually the meat of the subject is usually buried between loads of chatter and useless noise. So what you want to do, is try to find the important bits. And since you have a good memory, you will find it easy to store this information. The rest of the time you can be scanning the lecture or the book, looking for the next thing to concentrate on.

Wow, you sound so much like me, except for I am 21. I had no problem in concentrating on anything I had an interest. So, you should grow some interest in yourself on what you are doing. Learn to like what you do. For example, if you are studying history and you find it boring, try reading it as a story book.

Hope it helps.

Get a timer….

Tell yourself you are going to study for about 10mins. Set the timer and go. Stop when the timer rings.

Because you have a limited specific time you “hurry” to get done, this will keep you focused. You will be amazed at how much you can accomplish in 10-15 mins.

I timer trained my kids and this is how we clean the house. It works great.

i’m getting the place you’re coming from with the aid of fact i additionally did IGCSE (just about comparable as GCSE). i could additionally get so distracted exceptionally from social networks like Twitter et al yet luckily i did nicely in my finals. For analyzing, i could advise employing previous papers with the aid of fact that u seem to continuously be on the laptop, u can use your laptop (yet not the social networking websites) to artwork on the previous papers. i could additionally advise u to study/learn able the place people can SEE you (e.g. dwelling room) as you will likely study than once you’re in a restricted place (e.g. your mattress room). i’m hoping this helps to an volume.

Maybe see a dr. and see if he/she has something like ADD. Until then, is there anything that he/she can concentrate on like video games, computer, ect. Because there are alot of computer programs out there that make learning/studying fun and are kind of like a game. Hope this helps.

I find playing background music helps, anything instrumental with few vocals.
