Hamlet,Prince of Denmark was an intelligent ,gifted,

spirited man who had a nobility of character and

an appreciation of honesty and loyalty in his companions

and associates . He despised hypocracy and dishonesty

particularly when these traits were manifested by those

who possessed power over others—and he carried this

into his relationships with his mother whom he wanted

to love and did love excessively—but under the stresses

embodied in her betrayal of his father —he treated

Ophelia in a way most unfair to her and helped drive

the poor girl into the madness that led to her suicide.

Had he not been beset by the horrible discovery of

the murder of his father ,his determination for revenge

and his wavering and seeming incapability to cope

with carrying out this vengeance—-

and been left alone to lead a normal life he would

most likely have become a wise and capable King

of Denmark ! Loved by all !

The real Tragedy of his life was the Fate that was left

in store for him—thrust upon him by those whose

powers were misused due to greed and lust out

of control—

“Farewell,Sweet Prince ! Farewell ”

He reminds me of John Kennedy–somehow !

A good author will not really give you the complete visual and that is why when a book becomes a movie, it is so upsetting to me that the characters are misrepresented in looks according to how I envisioned them. The only movie that even got close was One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Our imaginations need room to play when we read a novel.

I think the best definition of a person’s character is how they handle conflict. What are Hamlet’s conflicts, and how does he handle them? Is he consistent? (How does he react to Ophelia, Polonius, his mother, his step father? Do his reactions to these people change? does he become stronger or weaker?
