Every student is eligible for Federal Stafford Loans no matter what. The issue I foresee with you is that dependent students (under 24 years old, no children, and/or unmarried) only qualify for about half of what independent students (over 24, married, and/or have children) can get, unless they use their parent’s info.

The Yearly Limits are:

Freshmen: Dep $3500 Ind $7500

Sophomore: Dep $4500 Ind $8500

Junior/Senior: Dep $5500 Ind $10500

Yes and no. If you have ANY way to pay for your first term, I would suggest doing that and applying for financial aid the DAY you get married or very soon therafter. This is because once you have filed your FAFSA as “single” you cannot change it for the 07-08 schoolyear. Period. Whereas if you wait until you ARE married, then it’s fine, and they won’t count your parents income. It’s risky to wait because it takes awhile to process, and you still might not get great aid because you’re applying so late, but if you’re parents make alot of money, it’s probably worth it. Talk to a financial aid officer at your school. Plus, we need more info–When are you going to school? Fall 07? Fall 08? Have you already filled out a fafsa? (in which case my answer is irrelevant) and when are you going to college?

In most states, it’s very difficult to separate yourself from your parents in terms of fin. aid. In my state, unless you are emancipated or over 25, you have to return at least one of your parent’s incomes on your fafsa and to your school.

Since you are getting married, you might be able to prove you are no longer supported by your parents. Call your school fin. aid office. They will be able to tell you what to do.
