How Bad is it to mark ” I plan to file my taxes” on the FASFA application?

I Know, I know, the deadline was in April, but I am late filing . I am filling out a FASFA ap.

Right now and am given the choices : will file/will not file/have filed. I will file next week, how bad is it to say “have filed” right now?

When I checked “will file” a pop up came up & said “are you sure you want to check ‘will file’ as the tax deadline was April”-ahh! what to do, what to do…….it seems like they dont want me to check the ol’ will file button.

I have my W-2 & all, cant I just get the info from that?

No. The FAFSA itself wouldn’t care what you put on it. Now, if the school you are going to apply ask you about it, then explain to them. Don’t stress too much about the application, just make sure you contact the school financial aid office regularly to make sure they have everything they need.

No, if you check that you have filed, they will likely want your tax papers that were filed for their files. Do not check it. You will be better off checking will not file or will file….yes, even with the deadline in April. If you check have filed, they will ask for info on numbers from your tax papers. Hopefully you are filling out the free FAFSA and not the one that charges you to do so.

my understanding the FAFSA application pulls specific questions right from your return. i don’t know if you can answer them without return. but i suppose the federal government has other ways of finding your income information.. i’m sure the school will get the information but will require you to bring in document so that they can accurately determine aid that applies to you…good luck
