While college is not free for American Indians, as a member of a federally recognized tribe you may be able to qualify for funding from your tribe. Each tribe has its own education program with its own policies and budgets. In general, the following guidelines apply:
*Contact your tribes education department (If you are not enrolled with a tribe you are out of luck.)
*Request their scholarship/education funding application
*Once you return your application, the tribe will decide if you qualify for funding (based on your grades, need, residency, etc.)
*Awards range from $50 to thousands of dollars
Again, these are scholarships, like any other scholarships help defer the cost of higher education.

Yes, sometimes. Contact the tribe that is listed on your CDIB card. Or if you are descendant from more than one tribe, I’d call them all. Most tribes have some sort of scholarship program to go to your school of choice. You might also want to check out Haskell in KS. It’s virtually free to all members of the federally recognized tribes. I think this even includes room and board.

Complete your FAFSA www.usa.gov and go to www.collegeboard.com and they should tell you about scholorships for minorities. Whatever you do never pay for scholorship applications or information about scholorships those are scams.
Good luck!
