The kitchen was alive with smell, smell of yeast, of bread-in-oven smell, smell of future delicious with melting butter on warm fresh bread smell. Oh yeasty buttery burp.

It’s usually called “fresh-baked” –that smell, but I’ll try to come up with something else.
Aromatic.
The smell of sustenance.
Fragrance.
Pleasant odor.

musty, fresh, sometimes clean… it’s hard to describe unless there is a certain type of bread… It’s hard to determine because different breads have different smells 🙂
