Jim Crow was a character in the first minstrel show, featuring white actors in racist depictions of black characters.

started in the 1880’s as laws to enforce segregation. no intermarriages allowed, separate areas for blacks and whites to eat, drink, schools, swim (etc). 1st person to answer was right about the origins of the name. these were state laws.
