What is the correct pronounciation for bologna?
If you answered “bolonie”, then why are the phonetics so disjointed? (Cf.: colonel, etc.)

English and its parameters can be confusing at best. The word is pronounced as bo-lone-ah, but baloney is better understood.
As for colonel: the pronounciation is as a kernel of corn. Perhaps its origins come from the early colonists.
I don’t make the rules; I just try to follow them.
