In honor of 9/11, do you have a creative tribute you’d like to post?

This group here on Words and wordplay are some of the most talented writers I’ve come across as of late….I thought perhaps you all had a tribute, be it poem, essay, story, note, thought, etc that you’d like to post in relation to this date and what occurred thereon. No wrong answers (except for ones filled with moronic rhetoric) All are encouraged to let their creativity flow….

Arsonists err when they burn a church building and think they’ve destroyed the church. The people are the church.

Our enemies miscalculated when they targeted symbols of U.S. economic, military, and political might. The World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and the White House are recognized the world over. But these architectural structures are not America. The thousands of people inside these buildings, going about their daily productive jobs, were the essence of America. The plane passengers who thwarted the attack on the White House were the essence of America. As we who survive continue to make our lives count, we are the essence of America. As we vow, not only never to forget, but always actively to remember, we are what makes America great. As we rise and proclaim, “You picked the wrong target!”, our red American blood surges. Those mighty buildings were symbols of U.S. glory, but their destruction or damage does not mean destruction of the U.S. We the People are America.

Our enemies are motivated by hate. We, the United States, are powered by love for our life and our country under God. Our enemies destroyed steel and stone buildings, but they underestimated the steel and stone within us. We are not going to give in to bombs and threats and hateful propaganda. We will prevail. We will soar. We will not break. We will bow only before God. God bless America!

The sky was blue.

The day like any other.

Who would have have thought that a day like that

Would be the departing of twin brothers?

As a plane wounded

The north of the 1st tower,

The sky billowed with smoke,

Like a sick blossoming flower.

The others were unaware,

Of their impending fate,

When yet anotheer plane hit the twin,

It was the end of lives so great.

Today remember,

They did not die in vain,

If we can build a better life,

Where understanding and peace reign.

On the 11th September, 2001, the World Trade Centre fell under the weight of terrorism. Thousands of lives were lost.

This poem is a tribute to the heroes, the frightened, the brave and the helping. We do not see this as a weakness!

They didn’t die for the cowards who did it to see us wallow in grief. It joined all nations and made us stronger.

R.I.P

[This was written on the spot, so it’s not THAT good]

I will always remember that day. The sky’s were blue and sunny where we live. My husband and I were getting ready to start our vacation and the Today Show announced that a plane had hit one of the towers.

We sat in fear and watched the television as the events started to unfold.

Our oldest daughter came over to our house and was confused How could this be happening, she kept asking. We watched as the second plane hit and listened as reports of others plane crashes started to emerge.

A young man, who is now one of my son-in-laws, called and asked me to call his mom. His sister had an appointment that very morning at the Pentagon. Her plane was late so she didn’t make the meeting.

My middle daughter called from work and was crying. She was afraid and there was nothing I could do to calm her fears for I had no idea what was happening myself.

All we did know was that life as we knew it was changing before our very eyes and we didn’t know why. We had no control over anything.

We prayed for the families that lost loved ones, the children that were going to grow up with a parent, the parents who lost their children. And we cried.

I will never forget and neither will my family.

On the eleventh of September in that year,

Awakened From my early morn slumber,

I saw what, once I thought was some movie.

What is this, I queried? Some Sci-Fi?

To my shock, anger exploded…

Who did this? Why? Quick change

the channel, it’s not true, What have

They done to our Red, White & Blue?

Flames in the Twins & Planes in the air,

Why did they come from way over there?

Why don’t they stop them? What can we do?

Look what they’ve done to our…

Red, White and Blue.

Would that the filthy, murdering swine who committed the outrage could have a thousand deaths, and the victims none at all.
